Originally known as Nightmare, Cotärd was formed in San Luis Potosí, Mexico in June 2017. The band shares members with several other legendary Mexican punk bands such as Antimaster, Old Crucifix, Miseräble... All of them infamous followers and lovers of Noise Crust, Dis Punk and Japanese Hardcore.

The name COTÄRD is a reference to the pathology discovered by Frenchman Jules Cotard, who describes living human beings who feel and believe that they are dead. The living dead... Suffering nihilistic delusions that turn them into automatons.
